The Senior Staff Association of the University of Cape Coast (SSAUCC) has held a send-off ceremony for Mr. Daniel Arthur Egyir, the immediate past Chairman of the Union.

Mr. Egyir’s elevation to the status of an Assistant Auditor which is a senior member means that he can no longer hold his position as Chairman of SSAUCC.

Extolling the legacy of Mr. Egyir, the Secretary of SSAUCC, Mr. Kofi Adom-Nyankey, said the immediate past Chairman of SSAUC was a visionary leader who had the welfare of members at heart. He noted that during his tenure as Chairman, the Union witnessed a number of policies and interventions that were aimed at providing opportunities to uplift the status of senior staff in the University. Some of the policies, programmes and interventions included the acquisition of lands for members, monthly health walk, health fund, capacity building, prudent financial management, , formation of Senior Staff Association of Public Universities, acquisition of office complex for the Union among others.

Mr. Adom-Nyankey thanked the University for recognising Mr. Egyir’s hard work by elevating him to the senior member category.  He said the executive council having worked with Mr. Egyir, decided to organise a special event to honour him, saying “Any Union that does not recognize hard working members or leaders, is not worth working for”. He said Mr. Egyir’s selfless contribution to the SSAUC would continue to inspire the executives and other members to be committed to the cause of Union.

The chairman for the function, Prof. Samuel Yeboah Mensah, commended Mr. Egyir for uniting the Union and also instituting several policies to ensure the welfare of members. “Hard work pays and Mr. Egyir has shown that if you do well as a leader, your efforts will be recognised by your supporters”, he noted. He, therefore, called on the executives to emulate the good work of Mr. Egyir by taking interest in the welfare of members.

Giving an exhortation at the function, Pastor Joseph Akorful, of the Cape Coast District Apostolic Church, said Mr. Egyir worked wholeheartedly as a faithful steward to the Union adding that “A good leader is of  sound character and is down to earth with the people he works with”. He called on members of SSAUCC to be faithful in any capacity they serve the Union.

Present at the function were executives, senior staff representatives of the various constituencies in the University, some heads of department and family members of Mr. Egyir.
